fooling around

Some titles in the administration section changed, i.e. Profile is what’s Options for wp 1.5.2 (not “ajaxed” yet), funny is the “general” part under options:

“More: We should really figure out what else to put here.” – How about plugins that work with the chosen layout? If the layout is saved with the neccessary html additions and can be chosen like the regular themes, it could thus be quite simple. It’s one (big imho) drawback on hosted blogs: as with blogger, you can’t play around “too much” with your blog. One the one hand, this saves a lot of work, either way, and you’re on the safe side as you can’t possibly break it, but on the other hand, you quickly find boundaries you’d rather like to circumvent or break down completely.

Under writing options, I’d really like to see a list of letter combinations that are automagically changed to images (smiley i.e.). In the discussion section, a list with blocked spammers would come handy, don’t think there’s one with the public stable version.

What I didn’t like so far: I can’t see any export tool. Let’s say I become a regular user here and write several hundreds of blogs, I’d really like to make backups of my posts – especially on hosts with beta software. ;-) But that aside, let’s say I want to host my own wordpress installation, how can I manage the migration?

wow…

…impressive. I’ve got an invitation for wordpress TNG, and here I am, using a wysiwycertainlyg editor I can drag around and increase the available text field, if I need to. Neat. Looking at the source there’s quite some Javascript involved in the upload and attachment tools – uh, oh, this is cool: I can even change the vertical order of all fields in the “write” section. If I need a new category for a new post, I can just enter one in the Category box and it’ll be added – technomagically… but that’s nothing dozens of other brand-new wordpress.com users haven’t been writing about, so I’ll stop right here and take a look at the other parts of the administration section.

update: Using the category box doesn’t work properly yet, I create a new category, but the post is not assigned to it and the category itself seems to vanish after publishing/saving the post.
